SEN Discos & Inclusive Children’s Entertainment in Stafford & Staffordshire

A party where every child can feel included

Planning a party for a child with additional needs can involve much more thought than simply choosing a venue and booking a children’s entertainer.

You may be thinking about sensory needs, communication, anxiety, behaviour, unfamiliar people, changes to routine, noise levels, lighting and how your child will cope in a busy environment — while also wanting them to have the same opportunity as every other child to enjoy their special day.

At Disco Dayz in Stafford, we understand that.

We’re not only children’s entertainers. We’re parents of SEN children ourselves.

We understand the planning, preparation and worry that can sit behind what other people might see as “just a children’s party”.

Our SEN discos and inclusive children’s entertainment are designed around the children attending rather than expecting every child to fit into a standard party format.

SEN Disco Entertainment in Stafford

A children’s disco doesn’t have to be overwhelming

Our children’s discos can include music, games, dancing and activities, but the entertainment can be adapted around your group.

Before your SEN party in Stafford or elsewhere in Staffordshire, we’re happy to discuss:

  • Music preferences
  • Volume levels
  • Lighting
  • Sensory considerations
  • Games and activities
  • Breaks and quieter periods
  • Communication needs
  • Group size
  • Age differences
  • Things your child particularly enjoys
  • Things that may cause anxiety or distress
  • Mascots and other potentially unfamiliar experiences

You know your child best.

Tell us what works for them and we’ll take that into account.

Experience, Training & Understanding

This is personal for us too

Our understanding of additional needs isn’t based solely on children’s entertainment.

We have personal experience, professional experience and training relating to children with additional needs.

Makaton

We have training and experience in Makaton, helping us better understand children who use signs and symbols alongside, or instead of, spoken communication.

Autism awareness

We have autism awareness training and experience, including an understanding of sensory differences, communication, anxiety, routines and behaviours that may challenge.

Behavioural support

We have experience and training relating to positive behavioural support and approaches to behaviour, with an emphasis on understanding what may be behind behaviour rather than simply trying to stop it.

Communication

We understand that communication doesn’t always mean speech.

Children may communicate using:

  • Makaton
  • AAC
  • Visual supports
  • Gestures
  • Signs
  • Pictures
  • Facial expressions
  • Other individual communication systems

We’re happy to discuss whatever works best for your child.

And We’re Parents of SEN Children Ourselves

We understand the pressure behind the party

This is probably the most important thing we can tell you.

We’re parents of SEN children ourselves.

We understand the questions that can run through your head when you’re planning an event:

Will they cope?

Will they be overwhelmed?

What if they won’t join in?

What if something goes wrong?

Will other people understand?

Will they actually enjoy their own party?

We understand that organising a birthday party or children’s event can sometimes feel like another thing to worry about.

That’s why we want you to be able to talk to us honestly about your child’s needs.

You don’t need to apologise for your child.

You don’t need to worry that we’ll judge their behaviour.

You don’t need to pretend everything is fine if it isn’t.

Just tell us what works for them.

Autism-Friendly & Inclusive Children’s Parties

Participation isn’t compulsory

Some children will dance.

Some will play games.

Some will watch.

Some might join in for five minutes and then need a break.

Some may spend part of the party doing something completely different.

That’s OK.

Our aim isn’t to have every child doing exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.

Our aim is to provide opportunities for children to participate in a way that works for them.

For some children, successfully joining in with one game might be the highlight of the party.

For another, dancing for half an hour might be what makes their day.

For another, simply being comfortable enough to stay in the room could be a huge achievement.
